Without real checks and balances Power corrupts and absolute Power (which is what the Supreme Court justices have) gives them ABSOLUTE POWER! To think in today's upside-down geopolitical world any justice isn't going to be corruptible is laughable! The only way these kinds of injustices stop is with the threat of real consequences. Has anyone in our vast Federal government been held accountable for their crimes starting with allowing a chimeric bioweapon (COVID-19) to be funded and then be released; followed by giving an emergency approval for an untested and deadly gene therapy called mRNA vaccine? How about Uncle Joe's syndicate, who's been shaking down governments for money for decades? All the evidence is traceable within our banking systems. How about Hillary and her FAKE claims of Trump colluding with Russia (that she funded) and an illegal government server in her bathroom that she bleach bit to cover up everything? She also sold weapons to Middle East terrorist enemies thru Libya and allowed American's to be slaughtered in our Libyan embassy to cover up the evidence. ZERO consequences!!!! America is a BANANA REPUBLIC . . . . no different than Venezuela or a dozen other Central American countries over the last 5 decades. 2 sets of rules. One for the regular folk and one for the ruling class.

A great metaphor is the movie trilogy "Lord of the Rings" where everyone who touches the ring regardless of their good nature and intentions is overcome by the evil power the ring gives . . . . . . except Frodo Baggins. Unfortunately, there are no Frodo's in our government who are coming to save us from the ROT in our institutions. We must all save ourselves!

Furthermore, my father ( tenured professor at Christian college too pay $37500/ year)received nearly $500000 from a friend to treat my sister’s psychiatric illness….. I personally treated patients who were public servants, preachers, school teachers, police missionaries , gifting or discounting my services.

I reviewed Justice Thomas tenure earlier. Observations include need for tutoring for financial literacy. James Dobson comes to mind. Much of his largess comes from hanging around one friend. Would they have been friends if he were not a justice? I doubt it! Thomas was definitely a conservative before he had contact with Crow! Although I personally would be tempted to go on cool trips, with interesting people & destinations I think I would probably avoid it to avoid appearance of impropriety or influence.

I don’t see him getting filthy rich as in Nancy Pelosi and apparent insider trading.

Didn't Clarence Thomas receive all those gists from one friend that he visited?

It's true that most (not all) of the gifts Clarence Thomas received came from entities associated with Harlan Crow. But Crow is not just a friend Thomas "visited." He is a billionaire and a mega political donor. A friend doesn't typically pay for your grandnephew's education or shower you with millions worth of 'gifts' for no reason. Plus, this has been going on for over two decades.

Were you able to elucidate a quid pro quo for Harlan Crow?

Let's start with the simple fact that the guy didn't disclose most of these 'gifts.' And he was required by the law. And this went on for many years (clearly b/c he thought he was getting away with it). That alone should give one pause. But that's not even the main point. The main point is the impunity that these judges as a group—not just Clarence Thomas as an individual—enjoy. The historical record shows that once you become a Supreme Court Justice, no matter how badly you screw up along the way, you'll be fine. P.S. I totally get the leniency someone might feel towards Clarence Thomas because he's from the lesser-evil party or his stance against affirmative action and other things, but sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade.

And there you have it, all three branches of U.S government beholden the USD$, corrupt the nation has become a Dollarcracy… a shining beacon on the hill .. not, worse the SCOTUS have even ruled, lobbyists and payments lobbyists including donations meet the definition of freedom of speech, hence no appetite to rein such in, despite the impact your once great Democratic Republic… nothing in that decision of course predicate it might impact their own receipt of fiscal Largesse as outlined this essay… nope, couldn’t be… why would they the SCOTUS think such, they’d never ever allow such a ruling to compromise their own perks.. now would they?

And there you have it, your permanent management class PMC, together elected and appointed representatives responsible for ensuring equanimity, law and order, no corruption, all with their snouts in the fiscal trough, their loins waist deep, chock a block up the likely corruption and fraudulent dealings ass… this carries on, they’ll be signing their own warrants, indeed they have, the U.S on the precipice of a great abyss, fiscally bankrupt, the many bankrupted for the few… one need only examine the obscenity of the government spending since 2008 to understand just how far over the cliff you’ve gone as a nation… I see the equivalent of burning torches and pitchforked armed folks rising up against this and tearing it down, rebuilding, those responsible dealt with as will be demanded, no other nation wanting a bar to do with any of them, they’re toxic, persona non grata, they and their self entitlement, their ideology and warped humanity clearly not wanted in any other jurisdiction ditto the billionaire class who might think they can merely, having wrecked your nation, simply sashaye up to any other nation where they’ll be welcomed with open arms.. not, misguided and mistaken they are… no where will be safe for them, bottom line, those responsible, do not let up, harangue and harass, no rest as they say for the wicked… Kia kaha from New Zealand

Thank you for writing about this. I have zero faith in our judicial system. It reminds me of ‘Night Court’. Our local courts are more like The Godfather meets High School Musical, a veritable nightmare, so I should not be surprised that it has reached the highest level. Nevertheless, it is disappointing and grotesque.

Thank you for your comment, Elizabeth. It's an unfortunate state of affairs that has become almost laughable. Alas, I don't see how it can be fixed. All we can do is watch and point out the insanity from the sidelines.

I agree. I used to think it could be repaired somehow but I no longer believe that so I simply concentrate upon ensuring my own home and small circle of loved ones and friends are functioning properly. Thank you, though.
